Poetry and Pancakes
Acacia’s GATE classes hosted the 1st annual, “Poetry and Pancakes” celebration on February 14th. Third- sixth grade GATE classes learned about poetry and presented poems for families in the multipurpose room. Each class presented poems in the “Poems for Two Voices” style. Many of the poems were original and written by pairs or groups of students. Poems included multiple perspectives, tone, voice, figurative language, and rhyme. Each poem had a theme and some were humorous while others were written about very serious topics such as World War II, bullying, and environmental issues. The students felt pride in sharing their creativity with an audience. After the poems, students enjoyed a buffet of pancakes and fruit. This was a successful event that will likely continue at Acacia for years to come!
